The Love of LAKSA!

Chasing the World’s best Laksa

I love a good Laksa……What is a Laksa you ask?

Laksa is a popular spicy noodle soup from Peranakan culture also known as Baba and Nyonya, which is a merger of Chinese and Malay elements found in Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia.

It’s a unique hot and spicy broth with a coconut cream base, filled with tofu puffs and selected veggies, chicken or seafood or both (combination) depending on where you are. It’s usually garnished with spring onions and chili. As far as I’m concerned the hotter the better. I often ask for extra fresh chopped chili with mine.

A friend and I often go out seeking the best or newest versions we can find. We both love chili and often end up getting into chili battles over our Laksa’s which has ended in tears and laughter on several occasions. The lengths we’ll go to to find a new Laska or a Laksa in a new place is quite amusing, I remember walking all of China Town in Melbourne for at least 2 hours trying to find just the right place……. only to come up short in disgust, that’s not to say you can’t get a good Laksa in Melbourne by the way…. Such was his disappointment, he fell on his sword and broke one of our golden rules: Never get a Laksa from a western airport. (It’s inferior & dangerous) Well he did it anyway and had some interesting moments on the flight home…..
