Adventures from the Blue City
Introducing Shani & her adventures from the blue city.
Johdpur: From the rooftops or the blue city.
Arriving in Johdpur at 5:30am meant that the city was still sleeping. All was quiet in this blue town as the sun came up over the aqua skyline.
When I woke from my sleep, the whole city had woken with me. The ‘Vegetable Wallas’ calling out, the rickshaws were beeping, but the most energetic place to look was the sky. Colourful birds dotted the sky, darting and weaving in the morning breeze. But of course these were not birds at all, but 100’s of kites.
Every rooftop that could be seen for miles had young boys, fresh from their sleep and still in their PJ’s, pulling and tugging at their kite strings, calling to each other from one blue roof top to another. It was a Saturday, school was out and it was too early for chores, kite fighting was serious business.
Women taking advantage of the windy morning were hanging their sari’s out to dry. Billowing art on canvas’s of silk only adding to the chaos and colour.
And all along in the distance, the looming and grand fort standing strong on the hill overlooking, and once protecting, this mesmerizing blue city.
